ML Slocum Kirchner is a Swiss American born and raised in New York City. She took her first art class at The Metropolitan Museum of Art at age 8, and at 14 she was the youngest ever intern in the Metś  Costume Institute working for Diana Vreeland. Her subsequent work in fashion shaped her sensibilities and her approach to photography. Trained as an economist at Columbia University while minoring in art history, she worked in New York until in 2001 when she moved to Ekali, Greece, and gave birth to her first child in Athens in 2003. In 2004, while living in Portugal, she returned to Athens for her first solo show at Athens College. In 2017 she moved to Antigua, Guatemala, and rededicated herself to exclusively pursuing her art. Currently, she is based in New York City where she lives with her children and dogs.

As one grapple with the idea that truth may no longer be objective and facts may not be universally agreed upon, the reflections that are seen in the shiny surfaces of buildings serve as a reminder that often someone’s perception of reality is affected by their own biases and interpretations.”
