Running Line

Noga Yudkovik-Etzioni

Opening November 7th, 2024 – December 21st, 2024

FORMah gallery is pleased to present “Running Line” –solo exhibition by mixed media artist Noga Yudkovik-Etzioni. The artist’ inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery features three floor installations and series of wall-mounted paper works titled Air Pockets.

Noga Yudkovik-Etzioni’s work takes the form of mixed media which oscillates between clear representations of objects and abstractionism, revealing rhythm and music in space. In the installation Backyard objects sculpted out of cardboard and paper are distorted in terms of their proportions and scale, featuring parts that fold, come apart and are cut, broken, or rebuilt. The paper is used to connect and construct the parts, creating a fantastic thicket and structuring a journey on which the familiar becomes strange. In this installation the artist aimed to create a fantastic tangle that will enable a journey in which the familiar becomes a stranger by using and disrupting the scale and the function.  This inversion constitutes a return to a childhood memory of Yudkovik-Etzioni, in which a public garden or backyard are transformed into a wild jungle where interesting things take place: games, explorations and discoveries, which provide the very materials for this work.

“In this work it is possible to simulate my way of working to a routine daily activity that is done in the home space, such as: organizing / arranging / packing / hanging / storing / dismantling / carrying / moving / parting..” the artist says.

MEDIA.jpg

The surface is only the crust, the "skin" of a concrete image that becomes abstract. The cumulative, rhythmic value in the way the objects of the weightless bodies are placed creates a mental and enigmatic charge; The viewer is invited to be a participant in the approximate process of reconstruction and the connection between the initial reality of the object and its final existence as an act and as an artistic exhibit. The viewing position investigates and traces the "real" reference of the images. But they are poetic, twisted, implied. The meaning and functionality of the images is taken from them, and their absence from the shell exists in a renewed presence, otherwise, missing, but at the same time, it does not give up the echo of memory, which allows the work to be deciphered through cultural connections.

“Running Line” exhibition is on view through December 21st, 2024.

"I created works from cardboard bent using water vapor into loot and in their materiality. As a kind of private jokes that do not reveal themselves clearly to the viewer, they are intended to remind the viewer of real objects without being fully defined. The poetic freedom to play and hang on them creates new interpretations or echoes of the story behind them ” – Noga Yudkovik-Etzioni.
